Visa readiness check

Your retirement extension

For the one-year extension of stay based on retirement, applied for at your local immigration office. It takes about two minutes, and nothing is saved.

Rules checked 16 Oct 2026

  1. Are you 50 or older?
  2. Are you in Thailand on a Non-Immigrant O or O-A visa, or an existing retirement extension?
  3. Are you using the bank deposit route (800,000 THB in a Thai bank account)?

Answer 'no' if you're using a monthly income or pension of 65,000 THB or more instead.

  4. Do you know how long your bank takes to issue a balance letter?

Most offices want a letter dated the day you apply, or within a few days, plus your updated bank book.

  5. Do you have your TM30 receipt for your current address?
  6. Is your permission based on an O-A visa you got abroad?

O-A and O-X holders must keep health insurance for the whole stay. Non-O based extensions don't need it.
